Hi folks, it’s JP. I always dread hiring because it results in (a) dumb recruiters spamming me and (b) a flood of unqualified applicants. Ironically, a routinely spams me with b. In other words: Dumb recruiters who have zero understanding of what real talent is send me a bunch of worthless resumes. So, let me preface this as follows: No recruiters. And no unqualified people. Be real. Also: You will be working in the Chambersburg PA / Gettysburg PA / Frederick MD region. Our next office is in Frederick, MD.
- Case manager who will eventually be operations manager. I strongly prefer someone who has no background in law. That’s right. Zero. Nada. Zip. Why? Because most law firms are poorly run. And most law firm support staff learned how to do things the wrong way. So now they’ve developed bad habits. I’m not interested in dealing with that. I’d prefer someone who is smart, capable, and wants to work with us on this mission. Here’s what you’ll be doing and here’s what we need:
- Diplomacy. You will be dealing with clients. You need to be able to handle people. That means gracious but not a pushover. Because people these days are ridiculous.
- You’ll interview clients, gather documents, build out case files, and prepare basic documents. You don’t need to have a legal background at all. You just have to be able to write and pay attention to detail. Good organization. You also need to know how to utilize current technology and platforms (think CRM or case management systems) to optimize case flow. You must have some experience with a CRM or be able to quickly master it.
- Writing. You have to be a good writer. That means professional. Clean. Proper grammar. Correct spelling. Strong preference for someone who has either (a) substantial experience in a professional role that is writing-intensive or (b) someone who majored in a writing/analysis heavy discipline (i.e. English, history) at a real school where everybody didn’t get an A.
- Logic & problem solving. We will show you the specific functions of the role. But you have to be able to think, logic through things, and figure things out. If you need hand-holding and instructions for every last thing, you will not fit here.
- Case Manager then Growing into Operations: If you can do all of this and also help me (JP) figure out how to optimize and manage the case flow, that is more valuable. I don’t want an opps person who doesn’t understand the underlying situation / issues / case flow / realities. An opps person who understands all of that and has experience working through that with me is MORE VALUABLE. So the goal here is for you to learn what we do, work with me in what we do, then help me build the processes and systems for US. I have ZERO interest in a generic opps person. I’ve tried them before and they aren’t a fit. I need a case manager first who grows into opps.
- Accountability. You need to be an adult. A real adult. Not a typical American adult. That means you take responsibility for your work. You own your mistakes. You can handle feedback. You don’t make excuses. If this posting offends you, then this is clearly not a good place for you.
- No drama. We already have a team of brilliant, amazing people. We are tight-knit. We are winners. We all have proven ourselves. We are a team and we love and care about each other. We go to each other’s weddings and parents’ birthday parties. We lean on each other through thick and thin. We’re not just colleagues — we’re also good friends. There is no drama and no bullshit. And there is no coming between the folks who are already here and who were the first ones in. You will never undermine the core. This is me, JP speaking. I love my colleagues like family. I owe these people so much. I am loyal to them. If you don’t understand and respect that, don’t throw your hat in the arena. Loyalty matters. I am old school. You can add to the core. You can become part of the core. But understand how this works.
- Compensation: The starting base salary for this role is $60,000 to $70,000, depending on experience, talent, abilities, fit, etc. There is tremendous room for growth, advancement, and much higher compensation.
- Location etc. This is NOT a remote position until you are an established part of the team. Even then, you will probably need to be in an office coaching up other people. We all did that. I spent 9+ years working out of the office and mentoring other people on the team. This position is also NOT in Florida. We are working on building a major presence in the mid-Atlantic. The Firm’s next office will be in Frederick, Maryland. And JP grew up in Chambersburg, PA. So that’s the region you need to be in. No exceptions.
If you’re confused about how to pursue this, it’s clearly not for you. Thanks.
JP
